India will be 'youngest' nation by 2010

India is set to be the world's 'youngest' nation by 2010 and will be the only large country to have favourable demographics - the only large country where the earning population is more than those dependent.

While India's median age by 2015 will be 27 from the current 24, that of China will reach 37 from 32. Favourable demographics, along with structural reforms and globalisation will drive the country to a sustained +8 per cent economic growth, according to a JM Morgan Stanley study.

The second edition of the 'India and China: New Tigers of Asia' study, says that India can maintain the high-growth phase longer than East Asia as its age-dependency ratio will continue to decline till 2035 - that is, the share of working-age population will continue to rise.

"The economic impact of India's demographic trends should improve further as the age-dependency ratio falls to 55 per cent by 2010 and to 52 per cent by 2015 from an estimated 60 per cent at present," Chetan Ahya, executive director, JM Morgan Stanley Securities, said.

The favourable demographics would also push India's aggregate savings to over 33-35 per cent of GDP over the next five years, from the past three years' average of 28.6 per cent, Ahya said.

"This increase in savings and, correspondingly, the investment-to-GDP ratio to above 35 per cent should ensure a shift in India's growth to a sustained rate of +8 per cent," Ahya said. On the other hand, over the next 10 years China's growth rate would moderate from a high base.

Do you want to know why have i attached a screenshot of my desktop that too with a plain windows wallpaper? Wait........

Take a close look at the picture. It is not the screenshot of my desktop it is a website. Amazing isn't it. If you browse through the entire site you will spend some time idle thinking about how he was able to concieve such an idea. The number of accolades he has won are unlimited, keep on adding more to that list as each and every person comes across this site.

Some time back i blogged about creativity. But after seeing a website of this kind i wonder is there something called extreme creativity.

The guy(GUI) who has developed this website is so creative and was able to achieve this.

PS: The owner of that website is a Bangladeshi national! KUDOS

Avian influenza, or bird flu, is a disease that usually infects only birds. The bird flu virus currently affecting poultry and some people in Asia is the H5N1 strain of the virus.This form spreads rapidly through poultry, and can kill entire flocks. It began in poultry in South KoreaHong Kong in mid-December February 2003, and has affected birds in Asia and Europe. The virus involved is a variant associated with the 1997 Hong Kong outbreak.

Is it safe to eat poultry and poultry products?

Yes, if properly handled during preparation and properly cooked. Avian influenza is not transmitted through cooked food. The H5N1 virus is sensitive to heat. Normal temperatures used for cooking (70 ºC) will kill the virus. Make sure all parts are fully cooked, with no pink parts. Make sure that eggs, too, are properly cooked with no runny yolks.

In my earlier posting (Indians Again!) i substituted the word Google for "Search engine" without knowing what would Google say if i search for "Search engine".

But today when i tried Googling the word "Search engine" it was a surprise as Google is not the top ranked site.

When everyone including me say that no one can topple Google, why Google doesn't say so?

May be they dont want to do the propaganda and instead they let us to talk for them.

One guy who finds things to learn all over the place is Steve Waugh.

Once the Australian Cricket Academy wanted to send a B team to the Commonwealth Games of 1988, but Waugh and others persuaded the ACB to send the full team instead because they reckoned it could be a learning experience.

After the Commonwealth Games Waugh said:

I can honestly say that our Commonwealth Games cricket experience was as good a two weeks as I've ever had in sport. Why? Having the opportunity to mingle with top class sportspeople from across a broad range of disciplines was a real learning curve for all the guys. To see the dedication and application these athletes put into gaining that extra, split-second advantage over their rivals was inspirational. Things such as having the odd beer, being able to venture out at night time in cold weather, eating whatever you like... these are things international cricketers take for granted. Many would have wondered is it possible to take on Google or atleast to start thinking in terms of Google (Alias: Search Engine).

But there are two Indian guys itching to take on Google with their Kosmix revolution. Interestingly both these guys went to Stanford with Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan two of the co-founders at Junglee which was later sold out to Amazon, twice seriously considered acquiring Google in its early days, but decided their friend Brin was too bold, if not arrogant, to deal with. They'd wanted to approach Sergey Brin, who was in early days forming Google with Page, and considered talks to acquire Google. Rajaraman recalls how Google was still not very big, employing only around 50 people: "And we kind of asked, at that point, 'Sergey, if Amazon were to buy you guys, what sort of price would you sell for?" I remember Sergey telling me: 'The only kind of price we'd accept would be something with ten digits [billions].' If he'd said nine digits, we might have talked."

We need to think differently in India. We need to think about not being service providers to someone else in the world. We need to think products. Why can’t India create the next Google? What is stopping India from creating the next Yahoo? It is the limitation of vision and partly the lack of marketing and branding which is the next frontier for India. There is not a single global Indian brand or a branded product. We are very good at the components, the ingredients. But we don’t do well going to the next level. Watch the Koreans, the Chinese. The Lenovo experiment is very illustrative in this respect. Lenovo is using the manufacturing prowess of China, the designing capabilities of Taiwan, the branding and distribution capabilities of IBM. That is the name of the game.

In 2005 India produced 200,000 engineering graduates, about three times as many as the United States and twice as many as all of Europe. But the really astonishing statistic is this: In 2005 India enrolled fully 450,000 students in four-year engineering courses, meaning that its output of engineers will more than double by 2009.

As striking as these numbers is the way India is getting there. What's made this engineering takeoff possible is not an increase in the supply of universities financed by taxpayers or foreign donors; it's an increase in demand for education from fee-paying students -- a demand to which entrepreneurs naturally respond. More than four out of five Indian engineering students attend private colleges, whose potential growth seems limitless.

Up to a point, India's success in brain-intensive industries such as software and pharmaceuticals lends substance to this theory: India's government has long invested in a few elite engineering schools, whose graduates are at the heart of the country's high-tech success. But it's also true that this elite pool of engineering excellence counted for little so long as statism stifled India's economy. It was only after market reform began in the 1990s that high-tech India took off.

Of course, India's progress isn't simple. The best engineers get snapped up by industry, so it's hard to find decent teachers to staff engineering schools more....
